Chairperson of the NIHR meets GANHRI Representative
Following the visit by NIHR’s delegation to the Swiss city of Geneva, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Mr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Faihani, head of the delegation, met Mrs. Katharina Rose, Representative of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), at the Wilson Palace in Geneva. He was pleased to thank her for holding this meeting, which came at the request of Her Excellency Mrs. Beate Rudolf, President of the GANHRI and Chairperson of the German Institute for Human Rights.
Chairperson of the NIHR discussed with Representative of the GANHRI the subject of severing the diplomatic relations with the State of Qatar by Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt, in addition to the misleading media campaign launched by the National Human Rights Committee in the State of Qatar, alleging that the severing of relations has resulted in humane violations, which is contrary to reality, expressing his astonishment at the allegations made by the National Committee in Qatar about the State of Qatar being subject to siege and collective punishment.
Mr. Al-Faihani called on the National Human Rights Committee in the State of Qatar to play its role as a credible and independent national institution to provide solutions aiming at the Qatari government to stop funding terrorist movements that violate the human rights in the boycott countries instead of inviting international institutions to take steps to force the boycott countries to back down from their sovereign decisions to protect their national security.
Mr. Al-Faihani stressed that the NIHR, through its human rights status and being part of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), is working closely to monitor the situation to ensure the non-infringement of the fundamental human rights of the citizens of both countries, pointing out that, to date, no person or family, Bahraini, Qatari or other, has submitted any complaints to the NIHR related to the consequences of severing the diplomatic relations with the State of Qatar, calling on the National Human Rights Committee in the State of Qatar to keep away from pushing the human rights issue into such political and security crisis.
