Khouri is the Rapporteur of the Conference on “Conflict and Human Rights”
Ms. Maria Khouri, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), was selected as Rapporteur of the Conference on “Conflict and Human Rights” by the Asia-Pacific Forum (APF) for National Human Rights Institutions.
Ms. Khouri presented the results of a dialogue session on the role of the national institutions in peace processes, highlighting the experience of the Kingdom of Bahrain in this field. She stressed the importance of the independent national institutions in optimizing their mandates to activate the strategies involved in building bridges of peace and preventing conflict and differences. She also stressed the need to enable civil society and human rights defenders to achieve a clear impact in spreading a culture of acceptance of the other opinion and collective action.
The conference, which is being held in Bangkok under the auspices of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission on the sidelines of the 22nd meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions, is discussing the impact of armed conflict on women and children and the role of the national institutions of human rights in the peace processes.
