NIHR Participates in the Hearing on Eliminating Racial Discrimination
Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has participated in the hearing allocated to national human rights institutions by the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, for the purpose of reviewing the NIHR’s parallel report submitted to the Committee on the report submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain on the progress made in implementing the provisions of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
The Committee commended the NIHR for submitting its parallel report, which contained a statement of activities, efforts and related challenges in the field of eliminating all forms of discrimination, and its final recommendations that constitute a set of improvement tools towards the application of international best practices in the field of human rights. Al-Derazi also gave comprehensive answers about the clarifications raised by the Committee during the hearing, regarding issues related to the NIHR’s work.
It is worth noting that the 108th session of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which extends from 14 November to 2 December 2022, is devoted to discussing the combined report of the Kingdom of Bahrain for the 18th – 14th periodic reports on the progress made in implementing the provisions of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of racial discrimination, to which the Kingdom of Bahrain has acceded under the Decree No. (8) of 1991, as well as other periodic reports submitted by Botswana, Brazil, France, Georgia and Jamaica.
