NIHR participates in the opening dialogue on Business and Human Rights in Doha
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) participated in the opening dialogue on Business and Human Rights in the Arab region, organized by the National Human Rights Committee in Qatar. Approximately 200 participants, including representatives from national institutions, experts, and international academics, attended the dialogue.
Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of NIHR, presented a paper on the role of the institution in the Kingdom of Bahrain in bridging business and human rights. He discussed the challenges and opportunities associated with integrating business and human rights and outlined ways to guide companies towards adopting practices that respect human rights through due diligence and impact assessments. He also showcased the actions taken by the institution to raise awareness among companies and enhance their capabilities to implement human rights standards.
Alderazi also emphasized the role that national institutions can play in supporting companies to align with international and regional standards, highlighting the initiatives led by the institution to develop strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors.
Additionally, the two-day opening dialogue included general sessions and expert panel discussions, as well as focused group discussions on various dimensions of business and human rights. These discussions covered corporate respect for women's and children's rights, labor rights, and the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
