NIHR welcomes the Cabinet's decision to grant it observer status in several national committees
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) welcomes Decision No. (21) of 2024, issued by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, granting NIHR observer status in the following committees, in response to the NIHR's request:
1- The National Committee for Childhood, 2- The Supreme Committee for the Care of Persons with Disabilities, 3- The National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons, 4- The National Committee for the Elderly.
The NIHR views this action as aiding in the enhancement of practices and protocols associated with fulfilling its mandates and duties as stipulated by its founding legislation. NIHR acknowledges with gratitude the government's endorsement to broaden the institution's mandate to encompass the oversight of its operations, recognizing the institution as an impartial and autonomous entity.
Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, NIHR Chairperson, praised the productive collaboration of the executive authority in supporting the institution's endeavors. He explained that this will enhance the institution's efforts in fulfilling its mandate to protect human rights and strengthen its relationships with governmental institutions on one hand, and stakeholders on the other.
Alderazi also recognized the executive authority's dedication to improving its effective policies in advancing and protecting human rights to foster peace, stability, security, and sustainable development. This encompasses broadening frameworks pertaining to freedom, democracy, and tolerance. Concurrently, he reaffirmed NIHR's commitment to monitoring and evaluating compliance with international agreements and treaties endorsed by the Kingdom of Bahrain concerning human rights.
