NIHR Holds a Meetin with APF

Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), held a videoconference with Mrs. Pep Bragon, an expert in evaluating the performance of national institutions and international participations in the Asia-Pacific Forum (APF), and Mrs. Rosalynn Noonan, advisor to the APF (former president of the National Institute for Human Rights in New Zealand and former President of the Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), on the start of the APF to conduct NIHR Capacity Assessment, which revolves around providing technical support to the NIHR, activating its mechanisms and terms of reference contained in its Establishment Law and how to deal with various parties and stakeholders, with the aim of promoting and protecting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

For her part, Ms. Khoury stated the importance of this assessment, which comes as a continuation of the assessment that was conducted in 2017, during which meetings will be held remotely with the members of the Council of Commissioners, the Secretary-General and a number of NIHR Secretariat-General staff, in addition to meeting with stakeholders from a number of official bodies and civil society institutions with which the NIHR cooperates order to implement its competencies and perform its role, noting that it will be the first remote meeting that the APF conducts with national institutions with the aim of reviewing the evaluation of their performance.

 

The NIHR is a member of the APF on National Human Rights Institutions in this region of the world, and the APF is one of the four regional groups in the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) along with the African and European Group and the Americas Group on National Human Rights Institutions.
