NIHR receives International Relations Analyst of the American Bureau of Child Labor
Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), received Mr. Ahora Afshar, International Relations Analyst of the American Bureau for Child Labor and Forced Labor at the US Department of Labor, who is currently visiting Bahrain.
Ms. Khoury stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain does not suffer from the child labor phenomenon, as the Constitution and national legislation provided full protection for children in various fields. She further pointed out that the NIHR works to promote and protect human rights in general and the rights of the child in particular, with its wide mandate stressed by its Incorporation Law, follows-up the commitment to the international conventions and treaties ratified by the Kingdom of Bahrain in this regard, and provides its opinions and proposals for the development of the legal system for children.
The Chairperson of the NIHR praised the US State Department’s report 2018 on trafficking in persons, in which the Kingdom of Bahrain ranked first class (Tier 1) in the classification of the most successful countries in the fight against trafficking in persons, among the efforts of 187 governments documented in the report, which reflects the Kingdom’s advanced position and confirms its commitment to the international standards, including relevant human rights standards.
