NIHR and NCHR Discuss Strengthening Joint Cooperation

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), met with Ambassador Mushaira Khattab, Head of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR), at the NCHR headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on the sidelines of his visit to the Egyptian capital to sign a joint cooperation agreement with the Arab Observatory for Human Rights (AOHR) of the Arab Parliament.

During the meeting, which was attended by a number of members of the NCHR Board of Commissioners, Mrs. Mushaira Khattab expressed her pleasure to meet with the Chairman of the NIHR in the Kingdom of Bahrain, stating the distinguished bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, and the importance of continuing to strengthen those relations especially in the field of human rights to meet aspirations and desired goals.

For his part, Al-Derazi expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality, praising the NCHR’s important role at the local, regional and international levels, and the efforts made by its members to promote human rights, pointing out the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two sides in areas of common interest, as well as the technical cooperation to raise capacities related to human rights in accordance with international standards.

The meeting also discussed ways to enhance areas of cooperation and coordination, where the two sides agreed on the need to put this cooperation in the form of a memorandum of understanding to exchange expertise and knowledge in accordance with the powers granted to each of them under the relevant national legislation.

It is worth mentioning that the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) in the Arab Republic of Egypt is a national institution equivalent to the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) in the Kingdom of Bahrain, established in accordance with the Paris Principles relating to the status of national human rights institutions, and enjoys the highest rank granted to effective and active national institutions at national, regional and international levels, which has the full observer status at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
