NIHR receives Secretary-General of the Ombudsman and Chairperson of Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission
Ms. Maria Khouri, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has met with Mr. Nawaf Mohammed Al Ma'awda, Secretary-General of the Ombudsman and Chairperson of the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission. The meeting was held at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef district.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed means of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the NIHR and the Commission, through coordination and mutual cooperation between the two parties in terms of consolidating the principles of human rights, exchanging experience in this area and promoting, encouraging and disseminating those experiences, and providing facilities that will contribute to achieving the objectives sought to be achieved by the two sides.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of adopting a joint training plan to monitor and inspect prisons and to prepare related reports in a professional manner in accordance with international standards.
