Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al-Fadel, Secretary-General of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), said that the NIHR’s Training Center trained 248 persons in Febraury 2018, a rise by 451% over the same period last year as the NIHR provided a number of general educational programs and workshops specialized in national, regional and international human rights mechanisms and held seminars, events and training programs related to the promotion and protection of human rights in line with its broad mandate under its Establishment Law aimed at disseminating  the culture of human rights in the society.

Dr. Al-Fadel stated that the increase in the target group is due to the memorandum of understanding signed between the NIHR and the Inspector-General’s Office of the National Security Agency, which aims to train 160 cadres of the Agency on the principles of human rights during this year, in addition to the new concepts adopted by the NIHR in the first quarter of 2018, which focus on cooperation with the private sector, being a partner responsible for the promotion and protection of human rights, and emphasize the rights of expatriate workers.

The NIHR’s Secretary-General also confirmed that the target groups covered by the training programs in this period also included civil society organizations, youth associations, human rights defenders, law enforcement agencies and private companies and institutions
