NIHR welcomes the decision of the UN to adopt the Bahrain's initiative to declare an International Day of Peaceful Coexistence
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) applauds the decision made by the United Nations General Assembly during its current session to designate January 28th of each year as International Day of Peaceful Coexistence. This decision is based on an initiative proposed by the Kingdom of Bahrain through the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, in collaboration with various brotherly and friendly countries.
NIHR recognizes the continuous efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the oversight of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to foster global dialogue and international understanding. This reflects Bahrain's leadership in the areas of human rights and peaceful coexistence on a global scale.
NIHR believes that the adoption of this international day underscores Bahrain's leading role in promoting and advocating for peace and tolerance globally. It highlights the exemplary model Bahrain has set through the implementation of numerous local and international initiatives that have reinforced the values of peace and mutual understanding among different cultures and religions. This initiative also enhances Bahrain's status as a global hub for peaceful coexistence and cultural diversity.
Eng. Ali Ahmad Alderazi, Chairperson of NIHR, emphasized that this UN resolution underscores the significant importance of promoting and spreading a culture of peace and coexistence among peoples and diverse cultures, especially at a time when many regions around the world face tensions and conflicts. This makes the enhancement of peaceful coexistence principles more urgent than ever.
Alderazi urged all relevant stakeholders, including governments, international organizations, and civil society, to collaborate in supporting this international day and to foster concepts of peaceful coexistence globally through organizing educational and awareness events. These events should encourage dialogue and understanding between different cultures and embrace principles of tolerance and mutual respect. He also commended the efforts of the United Nations and various international partners in advancing global peace and security.
