NIHR Conducts a Visit to the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre "Jaw" to determine the Circumstances of Death of an Inmate
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) reviewed the statement by the General Administration of Correction and Rehabilitation regarding the death of a prisoner in the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre in the Jaw region, on Friday, October 27, 2023, following a quarrel among a group of prisoners.
The NIHR immediately made an inspection visit to the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre to determine the circumstances of the death, the measures that were taken, and the results of the investigation. It also met with a number of inmates and recorded their statements about the incident.
The NIHR will continue to follow up and verify information from the Ministry of Interior after the Public Prosecution completes investigations into the incident and will also review the security and protection procedures and measures followed by the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre to ensure the safety of inmates.
The NIHR expresses its sincere condolences and equality to the families of the deceased prisoner and emphasises that the NIHR will follow up on the procedures for his death in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the relevant authorities.
