NIHR and Bahrain Institute for Political Development Sign a Memorandum of Understanding

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) and Bahrain Institute for Political Development (BIPD) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to coordinate cooperation between them, which is a renewal of the one entered into between the two parties in March 2014.  The current MoU is aimed at establishing a mechanism for continuing joint cooperation, exchanging information, developing training programs and coordinating and strengthening cooperation for exchange of information, ideas and expertise in the area of human rights.

The MoU covered a number of topics, e.g. supporting aspects of mutual interest and cooperation between the two parties, including the exchange of visits and consultations, the exchange of publications and studies, the organization of events and activities related to human rights issues and the development of the skills of employees of the two parties with regard to programs of spreading a culture of human rights.

Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners, commended the important role of the BIPD in spreading a culture of democracy and consolidating the its concept of sound principles by providing training programs, studies and researches related to the constitutional and legal field for various population groups.  She added that signing of this MOU indicates the importance of activating the common goals between the two parties, especially with regard to strengthening and educating the Bahraini community in all that would advance human rights and political work in order to advance development.  Ms. Khoury stated the importance of continuing activities and events of common interest despite the precautionary measures due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, through the optimal use of technologies for sustainment of awareness of the culture of human rights in society.

For her part, prof. Eman Faisal Janahi, Executive Director of the Bahrain Institute for Political Development, praised the signing of MoU with the NIHR, stating that it falls within the framework of the joint commitment of both the NIHR and the BIPD to support the Reform Project of His Majesty the King, and within the framework of the parties' desire to consolidate the bonds of coordination and joint cooperation between them in terms of consolidating human rights principles and supporting a culture of democracy in society, exchanging expertise in the area of human rights and democracy and enhancing, encouraging and spreading both cultures, and providing facilities that would contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two parties.

It is worth mentioning that this MoU expresses the desire of the two parties to activate their joint role to raise awareness of the importance of a culture of human rights, especially in light of the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), as well as the importance of a community culture that urges the values of justice, equality, acceptance of the other and development of a spirit of cooperation between the people of the homeland.
