NIHR Receives a Delegation from the US Congress
The National Institution for Human Rights received at the headquarters of the National Institution in the Seef District a delegation from the US Congress visiting the Kingdom to explore and witness the achievements made by Bahrain in various fields.
At the start of the meeting, HE Counselor-at-Law Yasser Ghanem Shaheen, Assistant Secretary-General (Acting Secretary-General) welcomed the Congress delegation and briefed them on the role played by the NIHR in accordance with the mandate entrusted to it in the field of enhancing and protecting human rights. In addition, he reviewed the contents of the first and second annual reports issued by NIHR for 2013 and 2014.
The Assistant Secretary-General briefed the visiting delegation on the Kingdom of Bahrain's shining record in the field of human rights in the era of His Majesty the King, during which the Kingdom has witnessed the establishment of human rights organizations, allowing for the formation of national human rights societies as well as the establishment of the National Institution for Human Rights. This process was accompanied by issuing and enacting national legislations and acceding to international conventions related to the maintenance and protection of human rights.
On its part, the US Congress delegation commended the role played by the NIHR in field of enhancing and protecting the human rights stressing that the experiment Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of human rights is one of the promising experiments worthy of review by other societies.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Fahd Abdullah Al Moali, Director of Information and Communication Technology and Mr. Jasem Al Bahar, Director of Training and Education.
