NIHR launches the Child Rights Commissioner's Friends Team and the Volunteer Expert Group
In line with Human Rights Day and the 15th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) launched the Child Rights Commissioner's Friends Team and the volunteer expert group. This initiative aims to support child rights and promote awareness of relevant national and international mechanisms, attended by several members of the Council of Commissioners, the General Secretary of the Institution, and parents of children.
Dr. Hooria Al Deiry, the Child Rights Commissioner, provided a visual presentation about the role of the Child Rights Commissioner in protecting, promoting, and advancing children's rights. She highlighted the achievements since the establishment of the position and discussed the competencies and tasks of NIHR.
The "Child Commissioner's Friends Team" was established to support the Commissioner's work and provide assistance on child-related topics, as well as to foster the development of children's skills and talents. The team comprises 30 children aged 12 to 18 years.
The "Volunteer Experts Group for the Child Commissioner's Friends" was formed to participate in awareness programs and consultative meetings about child issues, offering necessary support and advice to enhance the child rights framework in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The group includes 15 experts and professionals in child-related fields from civil society institutions or those with contributions and interests concerning children.
