NIHR participates in a panel discussion on domestic labor

The National Human Rights Institution (NIHR), represented by Mr. Khaled Abdulaziz Al Shaer, the Vice Chairperson of NIHR, participated in a panel discussion titled "The Phenomenon of Domestic Workers Fleeing: Challenges and Solutions," organized by Al Bilad newspaper.

In his address, Al Shaer expressed gratitude to all participants for their constructive cooperation, commending the newspaper's efforts in enriching community dialogue on human rights issues. He emphasized that the right to work is fundamental to human dignity and social justice, noting that the Kingdom of Bahrain has strived to create a suitable work environment for migrant workers.

Al Shaer discussed Bahrain's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 8, which focuses on promoting decent work. He noted that Bahrain has been an active member of the International Labour Organization since 1977 and has ratified numerous conventions that protect and enhance workers' rights.

He also highlighted the role of the NIHR in studying legislation and making recommendations to enhance human rights in the Kingdom, stressing the importance of fostering cooperation between governmental bodies, the private sector, and civil society institutions to ensure the rights of domestic workers.

Al Shaer concluded by emphasizing the need to raise awareness of the importance of international agreements such as the Convention on Decent Work for Domestic Workers and its associated recommendation, calling for support in their implementation to ensure justice and protection for all workers.
